Flash and the City is a four-day technology event, beginning June 9 with a day of workshops, and includes a 3-day, June 10-12, marathon-style conference focusing on a variety of technologies.

This year the conference will be segmented to include more topics that encompass a vast majority of technologies directly impacting web and mobile, not simply limited to Flash. More specifically, the conference has a single theme for each of the three days. The three "themes of the day" are UX/UI, mobile, and HTML5.

Internet Week New York

In addition, Flash and the City will be part of Internet Week NY, a very popular and highly marketed festival that attracts citywide attention. Internet Week is a week-long festival of events celebrating New York's thriving internet industry and community.

Internet Week New York is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences in cooperation with the City of New York and The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment.

Explore & Discover New York

Part of the Flash and the City experience is to venture out into New York. Continuing last year's format, we will be offering a "city" track, which means we will be offering tours of famous New York City venues, landmarks, and activities. Some of last year's tours included the MoMa, Statue of Liberty, Museum of Natural History, and the Empire State Building.

This year's city track is still under planning, so please check back in a couple of weeks to learn more about what fun activities we will have in place. To ensure that all attendees get to participate in city track sessions, we have changed the schedule to have many city track activities scheduled during the extended daily lunch hours. This all means that you should come ready to discover and explore New York City with all your peers and colleagues!

Supporting Our Community

Flash and the City is an event inspired by and for the developer community. Our mission is to provide developers with a vehicle to learn new skills and network with the movers and shakers of development world. We work very closely with our sponsors and speakers to keep costs low for everyone attending. This year in particular, we wanted to make sure nobody was left out due to financial reasons and worked with many sponsors to put together free workshops that are opened to the general public.

We intend for Flash and the City to be operated as a not-for-profit event, meaning that everything is priced and planned with the intend of covering general operating costs, any profit, if any, generated will be put back into the community via donations to open source projects and to plan next year’s event.

Ticket prices are much lower and almost half of other major conferences that actually take place in cities with lower operating costs than New York, so we hope you take this into consideration when comparing Flash and the City to other conferences. Additionally, we would like to thank our speakers who have helped us keep costs low and therefore keep ticket prices lower by agreeing to share hotel rooms while speaking at this year’s event. Plus, we don’t think sharing is never a bad thing if it is all in the spirit of helping out our community.
